Covington is the oldest housing stock on this list, and it needs the most thought. The riverfront and MainStrasse blocks are dense nineteenth-century brick — Italianate fronts, cornices, party walls, stone sills, slate roofs — much of it inside historic districts where the daytime appearance of a fixture matters as much as the lit result. Out from the river the housing opens up into later streets and hillside blocks that climb steeply away from the Ohio.
On the historic blocks a carefully designed seasonal display, planned around the cornice and fixed to the fascia line, is usually the right answer, and a permanent track only where it can be genuinely invisible in daylight. The hillside and later streets give more scope for permanent lighting. MainStrasse itself is commercial frontage — restaurants and shops where the lighting is part of how the district trades.
What a Covington install actually takes

On a nineteenth-century terrace there is frequently no way to reach a frontage except from the street, which means permissions and timing rather than just a ladder. Fixings are matched to stone, brick and slate detail per property, and nothing is fastened through roofing material. Christmas and seasonal light installation in Covington

After the holidays we take it down and store it until next year, so nothing lives in your garage and nothing gets crushed between seasons.
